The Memoir Practice
Write. Show up. Share. Repeat.
I designed this series because I never wanted the story writing process to stop. And I found that many of my classmates felt the same way.
I designed this series as a way to support participants who have completed the first class and want to continue writing. We meet once a month for about 2 hours and focus on writing, story telling and sharing our stories in a non-judgmental and supportive environment. The class is offered once a quarter, on the first Thursday of the month. Think of it as a place to bring your stories and responses to new prompts and support for continuing your writing practice.
If there’s time, we’ll also include some writing tips so you can explore the craft of writing, including some free-writes. Join us, it will be fun! Registration links below.
Why sign up?
Five reasons you should try this out:
Commit to a writing practice - You started a writing practice when you took the original GAB/memoir class. You enjoyed being part of a writing group and want to continue the practice, but you haven’t been able to follow through on your commitment. By committing to this practice group for one year, you will have written 12 new stories. 12 memories committed to paper.
Enjoy the community (and accountability) of others who are writing their stories - Writing alone is hard. You procrastinate. You make excuses. You have the best of intentions and life gets in the way. When you show up for others, you are also showing up for yourself. Join us, connect with us and share your stories!
Speak your stories - There’s something transformative when you read your story out loud to an audience. On the page, it sits quietly. But when you speak it aloud to a waiting audience, it becomes true, it becomes real. And you also serve as a witness to others who are speaking their stories.
Make yourself a priority - ‘Someday I’ll get to it’ is a common refrain. When you relegate important things to “someday”, you’re putting yourself on the back burner. What if you gave yourself 3-4 hours/month to write your stories? How might you feel about yourself? How might your self-confidence grow when you put your writing first and work at it?
Your stories are worth sharing - Writing is a muscle, and so are your story memories. The more you write, the more you remember, the more satisfying this process is. You have stories to tell. Don’t stop because the class is over . Join us!
